Craig Doerge CD Going for Big Bucks

Filed under: eBay — keith @ 10:54 am

Craig Doerge CD

You don’t have to pay $100 for a copy of Craig Doerge’s solo CD on eBay. They are available for $13.95 on Judy’s website.

I don’t see anything special about the eBay copy, but I suppose there’s a chance that it’s a rare copy that a collector would want. If you just want the music, buy it from the source.

Musically, this is a really nice album. Craig is accompanied by the usual cast of top-tier studio musicians. If you need another reason that it deserves a place in your collection, how about lyrics by Judy Henske? You get a great version of “Reno,” Craig’s rendition of “Yellow Beach Umbrella” (made famous by Bette Midler) and the classic “Dogs Are The Only Real Christians” (I’d love to hear Judy’s take on that song). Rating: Two paws up!

Richie Unterberger on Judy Henske

Filed under: Links — keith @ 10:12 am

Writer Richie Unterberger is a big Judy Henske fan. The world found this out when he praised Judy and Jerry Yester’s classic Farewell Aldebaran in his book, Unknown Legends of Rock’n'Roll. He went on to write all the liner notes for Judy’s CD reissues on Collector’s Choice.

Unterberger’s site has all of these liner notes in one place, plus an exclusive interview with the woman herself.

Judy’s Rare Single, “Road to Nowhere” on a New Compilation

Filed under: Releases — keith @ 7:41 am

Judy’s 1966 single, “Road to Nowhere,” has been released on a Jack Nitzsche compilation CD. The Jack Nitzsche Story: Hearing Is Believing contains 26 tracks and was released by Ace Records on May 10, 2005.

This is from what I call Judy’s “hidden period.” She released a few singles for Reprise (before or after “Death Defying Judy Henske,” I’m not sure which) that were produced and arranged by Jack Nitzsche.

I might be in the minority, but I love this period of Judy’s career. The combination of Nitzsche’s arrangements are infectious. “Day to Day” and “Dolphins in the Sea” are two other tracks that were released that year. I’m hoping there’s a whole unreleased studio album in the can that will someday see the light of day (yeah, dream on fella).

Available now from Amazon and other fine music establishments. CD Universe has audio samples. More info at the Ace Records website.
