Judy Henske on iTunes

Filed under: Audio, Media — keith @ 10:23 am

I’m not sure when these were added, but I only noticed it today. You can now purchase Judy Henske, High Flying Bird and The Death-Defying Judy Henske at the iTunes Music Store. If you have iTunes installed, just follow this link. If that doesn’t work, just open iTunes, go to the music store and search for Henske.

You’ll also find Chubby Checker’s version of “Hooka Tooka,” from the collection, Cameo Parkway: The Best of Chubby Checker, 1959-1963. And by the way, Dave Guard and the Whiskeyhill singers is NOT on iTunes yet.

Filed under: Links, Media, Video — keith @ 11:16 am

I have begun uploading rare Judy Henske clips to YouTube. Here’s the first one: Judy on the Hootenanny TV show performing “High Flying Bird.” This aired on September 28, 1963.

EDIT: Just added “Charlotte Town” from the same episode:

Some New Henske Links

Filed under: Links — keith @ 8:11 am

It’s been quiet in Henske land. If anybody has news, please send it my way. In the meantime, here are a couple links… the first two are from the popular MP3 Blog, Keep the Coffee Coming. Note that the MP3 files may not be available anymore.

By the way, the Message Board has been cleared of spam. Sorry for the lack of vigilance on my part! Head over to our wonderful little community now, and make yourself known!

Judy Mentioned in Grammy Article

Filed under: Media — keith @ 5:42 pm

The Chippewa Herald writes of Woody Allen’s inspiration for Annie Hall.

According to www.filmsite.org, comedian Woody Allen in the mid-1960s had a relationship with a folk singer, Judy Henske, who was born in Chippewa Falls.

So it may have been no coincidence that the lead female character in Allen’s “Annie Hall” in 1977 was from Chippewa Falls.

That’s about the extent of it, but no matter how small, it’s nice to see Judy mentioned in the news. Too bad they couldn’t interview her, or at least link to her site.

Farewell Aldebaran Reissued on CD!

Filed under: Releases — keith @ 10:34 am

Thanks to Robin for the tip…

Farewell Aldebaran

Radioactive Records in the UK has released the cult classic from Judy Henske & Jerry Yester, Farewell Aldebaran. As far as I can tell, it’s out now (why am I the last one to find out about this stuff??).

UPDATE: Judy is going to offer this CD at her website, so please support her and buy it there. We’ll let you know when she has it available.

This is an amazing album, and it’s about time somebody has reissued it. Now all we need is Judy’s lone album for Mercury Records, Little Bit of Sunshine, Little Bit of Rain!

Want to know more about Farewell Aldebaran? A blogger called The Mystical Beast has a nice description (plus some MP3 samples).

UPDATE: Over at the Steve Hoffman Music Forums, somebody mentioned that some releases from Radioactive Records are not exactly “legit.” Some are taken straight from vinyl. Not sure if that’s true or not, so feel free to correct me. Hopefully, they got ahold of the master tapes and did it right.

UPDATE #2: The CD is now available directly from Judy’s website.

Redfern’s Music Picture Library has photos of Judy. I believe you can order custom prints, for a price.
