"...Initially, (Alfred) Newman and (Ken) Darby had wanted The Kingston Trio
to perform the songs in the movie. However, after Darby heard (Dave) Guard, a
former Kingston
Trio member, and his Whiskeyhill Quartet, as Guard recalled in an interview
in 1991, 'he liked our wilder sound better than the Trio's smooth approach and
used us instead.' Heard
on these songs, along with Guard, are Cyrus Faryar, an Iranian-born guitarist-singer;
Judy Henske, a folk singer in her own right; and David Wheat, a bassist and singer...." |
