Craig was kind enough to scan some of the artwork for Big Judy. These are scans of the artwork that they approved, so you’ll see writing and notes too. The packaging looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to see and hear it.
For those keeping score, the set was mastered by Dan Hersch at Digiprep.
Some words from Craig:
We are very excited about BIG JUDY, and I am urging her to do all she can to get out the word and do interviews etc. We’ve noticed some nice activity based around clips from Hootenanny on either My Space or You Tube. She wants to get her Garland appearance on You Tube as well- all of that type exposure being very good.
(I want to write more songs, make more records. and do more performing). So, the Rhino Handmade release is good for us both, imo. 2007 should be a year filled with heightened recognition of Judy’s talents, and opportunities for us to promote them via cds and live performing.
I’m told that Rhino is shipping the set now. Remember, you won’t be able to buy this in stores, and it’s limited to 5000 copies. To purchase it, go to the Rhino Handmade site and order now.
As mentioned last week, Rhino Handmade has released Big Judy: How Far This Music Goes (1962-2004). It’s limited to 5000 numbered copies. ORDER NOW!

Here’s the tracklist:
This is a fantastic tracklist. We get the original Judy Hart single, all the Reprise sides, a couple Mercury tracks, Rosebud, tracks from Farewell Aldebaran, four unreleased tracks and the cream of the crop from the last two CDs. I couldn’t ask for anything better!
Craig tells me the packaging is really nice, and features some rarely-seen photos.
Thanks to Robin, who posted this in the comments of the iTunes article.
Has anybody noticed this? There’s a 2CD item titled ‘Big Judy - How Far This Music Goes (1962-2004)’ which has shown up on amazon.co.uk for pre-order, with a tentative release date of February 19, 2007. No track listing, and further Googling has yet to yield any results. Anyone else got any info??
Amazon.uk lists it here, and also a “Limited” version here. Also listed as a 2-CD set at Townsend Records in the UK.
This must be the rumored collection from Rhino Handmade. Finally! Release date is supposed to be February 19. Still no mention of it on the Rhino Handmade website though…
Also of note, a vinyl edition of Farewell Aldebaran from Radioactive. So you’re telling me that they created the LP from an LP dub? Gee, thanks…
UPDATE: Just received word from Craig that Disc 1 will contain 18 tracks, and Disc 2 will contain 19. Disc 2 will feature 11 tracks from Loose in the World and She Sang California.
NOTE: ALL RHINO HANDMADE RELEASES ARE LIMITED EDITION. You’ll be able to order from the Rhino Handmade website. I’d go there instead of Amazon… you never know how quickly these will sell out.
Thanks to Robin for the tip…

Radioactive Records in the UK has released the cult classic from Judy Henske & Jerry Yester, Farewell Aldebaran. As far as I can tell, it’s out now (why am I the last one to find out about this stuff??).
UPDATE: Judy is going to offer this CD at her website, so please support her and buy it there. We’ll let you know when she has it available.
This is an amazing album, and it’s about time somebody has reissued it. Now all we need is Judy’s lone album for Mercury Records, Little Bit of Sunshine, Little Bit of Rain!
Want to know more about Farewell Aldebaran? A blogger called The Mystical Beast has a nice description (plus some MP3 samples).
UPDATE: Over at the Steve Hoffman Music Forums, somebody mentioned that some releases from Radioactive Records are not exactly “legit.” Some are taken straight from vinyl. Not sure if that’s true or not, so feel free to correct me. Hopefully, they got ahold of the master tapes and did it right.
UPDATE #2: The CD is now available directly from Judy’s website.
Judy’s 1966 single, “Road to Nowhere,” has been released on a Jack Nitzsche compilation CD. The Jack Nitzsche Story: Hearing Is Believing contains 26 tracks and was released by Ace Records on May 10, 2005.
This is from what I call Judy’s “hidden period.” She released a few singles for Reprise (before or after “Death Defying Judy Henske,” I’m not sure which) that were produced and arranged by Jack Nitzsche.
I might be in the minority, but I love this period of Judy’s career. The combination of Nitzsche’s arrangements are infectious. “Day to Day” and “Dolphins in the Sea” are two other tracks that were released that year. I’m hoping there’s a whole unreleased studio album in the can that will someday see the light of day (yeah, dream on fella).
Available now from Amazon and other fine music establishments. CD Universe has audio samples. More info at the Ace Records website.
