What is last.fm? I like Wikipedia’s description the best:
Last.fm is … a music recommendation system … that builds a detailed profile of each user’s musical taste, also recommending artists similar to their favorites, showing their favourite artists and songs on a customizable profile webpage, comprising the songs played on its stations selected via a collaborative filter, or optionally, recorded by a Last.fm plugin installed into its users’ music playing application.
Basically, if you listen to music on your computer or iPod, you can report every song played to last.fm, which keeps track of all your listening habits and produces charts. Beyond that, it allows people with similar tastes to become “friends” and form groups.
Hence, the Judy Henske fan group.
Registered last.fm users can join by going to the Judy Henske Fan group and clicking “join.”
People are starting to receive their copies of Big Judy. Here are some photos sent in by a fellow fan.
Harp Magazine has a short article/announement about Big Judy.
Henske Gets “Big Judy” Treatment from Rhino Handmade
Folk-rock pioneer Judy Henske is getting the big treatment. Rhino Handmade has released the career-spanning Big Judy: How Far This Music Goes (1962-2004)—a two-disc, 41-track anthology dedicated to Henske’s long, strange, trip from her early days with The Whiskeyhill Singers up through her comeback in 1999. The limited edition set (only 5,000 copies available) features four previously unreleased tracks, rare singles, and songs pulled from all of Henske’s other studio efforts.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of the Big Judy media blitz. I’m subscribed to Google Alerts, so I’ll post ‘em as I see ‘em.
Craig was kind enough to scan some of the artwork for Big Judy. These are scans of the artwork that they approved, so you’ll see writing and notes too. The packaging looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to see and hear it.
For those keeping score, the set was mastered by Dan Hersch at Digiprep.
Some words from Craig:
We are very excited about BIG JUDY, and I am urging her to do all she can to get out the word and do interviews etc. We’ve noticed some nice activity based around clips from Hootenanny on either My Space or You Tube. She wants to get her Garland appearance on You Tube as well- all of that type exposure being very good.
(I want to write more songs, make more records. and do more performing). So, the Rhino Handmade release is good for us both, imo. 2007 should be a year filled with heightened recognition of Judy’s talents, and opportunities for us to promote them via cds and live performing.
I’m told that Rhino is shipping the set now. Remember, you won’t be able to buy this in stores, and it’s limited to 5000 copies. To purchase it, go to the Rhino Handmade site and order now.
