This is a fantastic tracklist. We get the original Judy Hart single, all the Reprise sides, a couple Mercury tracks, Rosebud, tracks from Farewell Aldebaran, four unreleased tracks and the cream of the crop from the last two CDs. I couldn’t ask for anything better!
Craig tells me the packaging is really nice, and features some rarely-seen photos.

Great timing on this. Is there going to be any press on the release? Media? She has a great story that shouldn’t be just a west coast thing. Just ordered the collection. I see a 60 minutes piece here.

Nice… just ordered mine from the Rhino Handmade site. Thanks Keith for keeping the Judy freak flag flying.

Although… I hafta say… it kinda blows me away that Rhino was able to put this together, and yet still no proper reissue for Aldebaran. Gift horse, mouth, etc.

Robin,
In the reissue world, it’s all about licensing. Whoever controls Aldebaran is not very liberal with licensing. They may be asking a lot of money for those tracks, and Rhino has to weigh the price of the set vs. the number of copies they can sell vs. the cost of licensing the rest of the tracks, photos, etc. The reissue game is very expensive, especially for collections like this. And from what I can gather, the UK CD of Aldebaran came out through some licensing loophole and isn’t even taken from the master tape… it’s from an LP!
Hopefully the success of Big Judy will pave the way for a full reissue of Aldebaran.

Yes, I know, avarice, greed, the tyranny of market forces, and so on… kind of a drag. Rhino’s giving it their best shot, undoubtedly. (And yes, that Radioactive UK needle-drop-CD of Aldebaran truly is appalling - my old cassette dub of the LP has better sound quality, fer cryin’ out loud.)

So is there any press coming on this? I think it deserves some sort of retrospective sort of media piece in the major organs. I think the Wash Post would be interested. Maybe even the Times. How does that work with these limited sets? Any promo money? Love to see the word get out..
